It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Rodney S. Shelley, aged 70, on July 24, 2016.
The lights that brightened the Shelley family dimmed on July 21, 1998, when beloved mother and wife, Linda Ann Shelley, departed this gracious earth. Her only request to her husband, the now late Rodney, was to ensure he took care of “their girls” – A task he accepted zealously and lovingly until Sunday, when he joined his beautiful Linda in spirit.
To steal the eloquence of another, he was “our North, our South, our East and West. Our working week and Sunday rest…”
He guided us through our grief, out of the darkness, and taught us how to live compassionately, with humor, humility and kindness. As “his girls”, we’re forever grateful to him for our appreciation of sarcasm, a well-timed joke, all things Man United and almost-stale midget gems.
Dad, the lights have dimmed once again and our hearts are broken with your passing. However, you’ve taught us that they will once again mend, despite the deepness of the wound and the scars that will forever remain.
Give our mum a big hug and kiss from all of us. We will see you both again one sweet day; it’s all just a drop in the ocean of time. Sleep well, sweet Dad. With the deepest love imaginable,
Your girls – Susan, Karen and Pam
Rodney Shelley was preceded in death by his gorgeous wife, Linda Ann; Mother, Winifred; Dad, John; and family pet extraordinaire, Pepsi.
He leaves behind the fragile hearts of his daughters, Susan, Karen and Pamela; Father-in-Law and the “man who will outlive us all” (his words not ours), Alfred “Steve” Stenning (96); Son-in-Law, Kevin; and his two favorite little people, his grandchildren, Kevin James (5) and Carys Lynn (2).
By his request, there will be no service, “keep it simple” he said. In lieu of flowers, the Shelley sisters ask that you laugh with those you love dearly, have a cup of tea and remember his dear soul as you knew him. “To love another person is to see the face of God.” – Victor Hugo
