Richard Harry Patterson, age 62, of Elkton, MD passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was born in Wilmington, DE on May 19, 1963 to the late Marvin and Rebecca Ann Patterson.
Rich was a 1981 graduate of Dickinson High School. After high school, Rich studied the electrical trade and went on to start an electrical company, R and D Electric, with his good friend and business partner, Dave Lacey. Together, they successfully ran the business for over 20 years, with Dave’s sons Mike and Rich joining as well.
Rich was an avid NASCAR fan who loved spending Friday nights playing pool with friends. He had a passion for gun collecting and enjoyed spending his weekends at the shooting range. He had a lifelong interest in history and WWII planes. He loved spending time at airshows and WWII events, combining his interests of history and aviation. Rich loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing. He also had a special bond with his sister Nancy’s dog, Parker, whom he lovingly cared for after her passing.
Rich loved being a father and grandfather and he cherished the time he spent with his grandson, “Little Richie”. He especially enjoyed attending his weekly swim classes to cheer him on. He also loved reading him books and watching cartoons together on the couch. One of his favorite things to do was surprise him with John Deere tractor toys, knowing they were Richie’s favorite.
Rich is survived by his son, Richard Patterson II (Emily) of New Castle, DE; grandson Richard W. Patterson; sisters: Patti Patterson of Elkton, MD, Susan Lynch (Alan) of Wilmington, DE, and Amy Verbonitz (Mike) of Newark, DE; brother: Robert Patterson (Ken) of Elkton, MD; plus numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse “Sam” Patterson, and sister, Nancy Betts, both fondly remembered. He was also predeceased by his beloved partner, Louise Hahn, who passed in 2015 and remained very dear in his memory.
Family and friends are welcome to begin gathering at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 17, 2025, at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921. A celebration of Rich’s life will follow at 7:00 PM. To share online condolences, please visit www.rtfoard.com.
