Raymond O. Knox of Newark, DE passed away on Sunday, January 8 2017. Born in 1932 to the late Oscar and Mae (Leslie) Knox.

Ray was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1950. He served with Delaware National Guard for 41 years retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and was very proud of his induction into the NCO Hall of Fame. One of Ray’s other passions was his dedication to service for the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder company. A member for 54 years, he held several offices such as ladder captain, fire police captain, treasurer, and director as well as a life member of the Delaware State Fire Police. Ray was also a 63 year member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 25. A lifelong love of sports, he was a member of the notorious Cleveland Avenue Clippers as well as a coach with the Capitol Trail football league through the 1960’s. One of his greatest treasures was his cottage on the Bohemia River where he enjoyed hunting and fishing, time with family and friends, and watching countless amazing sunsets.

In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Skidmore. He is survived by Norma (Foraker) Knox, the love of his life to whom he was married for 61 years. His son, James Knox (Rosa Nolan), Son-in-Law Stephen Skidmore, Grandchildren; Jennifer Scott (Jon), Stephanie Skidmore, Michael Knox, and Deborah Knox. Great Grandchildren; Gavin Ward, Dylan Skidmore and Brantley Scott. Sister; Joyce Wegman and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, January 18 from 6 to 8pm at Aetna Hall Station 8 – 410 Ogletown Rd. Newark, DE 19711. A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 19 at 12pm, with visitation one hour prior in the Aetna Hall. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to support your local fire company.

What a wonderful, loving man. In my younger days, as I used to run around with my dear friend Sharon, I grew close to your family and know the love you shared.
