Phyllis Ann Peterson, 81, of Elk Mills, MD, passed away September 28, 2014 at Christiana Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Elk Mills, Phyllis was born on September 29, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Gregson. She was a graduate of Elkton High School and worked for the Cecil County Board of Education as a teacher’s aide at Kenmore Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of Baldwin United Methodist Church in Elk Mills. She was Director and a leader of the Church Youth Group, Director of Sunday School for 20 years and of the Summer Vacation Bible School for 50 years. Phyllis was a life member of the Historical Society of Cecil County and a 4-H leader and was a contributing writer for the Cecil Whig. She enjoyed going to the beach and travelled to Northern Ireland to see the home of her ancestors. She also loved to shop and spend time with her friends. She will be remembered as a woman devoted to her family and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her five children, William A. Peterson, Jr. and wife Mary of Newark, DE, D. Alan Peterson of Elkton, Keith A. Peterson and Zainul of Newark, DE, Lori A. Kirkpatrick and husband Bob of New Jersey, and Corinne A. Peterson of Elkton, MD; 12 grandchildren, Christina, Darrell, Jamie, Cory, Curtis, Chassity, Catherine, Emily, Courtney, Cameron, Miranda, and Andrew; 9 great grandchildren, Stephen, Lindsey, Ian, Jacob, Lila, Elijah, Noah, Donovan and Declan; and a brother Robert Gregson and his wife Dorothy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William A. Peterson, Sr.
A graveside service will be held at Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Baldwin United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School Program, and mailed to R.T.
