Patricia Sue Anderson, age 92, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 8, 2025.
Born in Ithaca, NY on September 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Dorothy (Grohl) Updyke. Pat grew up in the Richardson Park neighborhood on Reamer Avenue and was a graduate of Conrad High School. She was a full-time homemaker but also worked briefly as a kindergarten teacher at Faux Pre-School on Maryland Avenue and as a secretary for a local State Farm Agent. Pat married the absolute love of her life, William (Bill) Anderson in 1954 with whom she raised three children and enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage together prior to his passing in 2003.
Mom, Patsy, Patty Sue, Grandmother and GMom enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family and the Delaware Beaches. For many years she and Dad maintained a home and wonderful gardens in the neighborhood of Spring Lake in Rehoboth Beach. Many summers were filled with raising her 5 grandchildren, providing them with countless memories of family dinners, days at the pool and many hours spent on the beach in her favorite spot in front of the Henlopen Hotel. And of course, nobody sat on the beach in front of HER chair and umbrella blocking her view of the ocean.
In her early years, Mom spent many hours at the VFW Little league field volunteering in the snack bar and working with the Ladies Auxiliary where she and Dad met many lifelong friends. In later years, she attended just about every activity she could for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mom enjoyed sitting on the beach, watching the ocean, HGTV, tuning into the Phillies games but especially loved watching the Eagles. She was very happy while watching the Super Bowl victory this year. She also loved her English Labs at home who never went by her without getting a treat and a greeting.
In addition to her parents and brother James Updyke, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Anderson. She is survived by her brother Richard (Joan), her three children, Sue A. Werb (Duane), Michael (Jennifer) and Letitia (Tish) Iverson (Jerry), grandchildren Jennifer Wahl (Hugh), Jillian Sullivan, Rebecca Petka (Joey), Peter J. Good III (Alexis), Michael Anderson Jr. (Samantha) David, Ashley and Amber Buchanan and 9 great grandchildren, Ethan and Addison Sullivan, Cadence and Lydia Wahl, JoJo, Cody and Zachary Petka, Peter John Good IV, Avery Anderson and a host of nieces and nephews. The impact Pat had on people’s lives with her sense of humor, her love for family and friends will forever be how she is remembered. There is not one person that ever met her that didn’t just love her. She was the absolute best.
A celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on August 20, 2025 at the Newark Country Club. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to any of the children and family members by August 19, 2025 for further details.
