P. Charles Martucci, Jr., age 95 of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Charlie was born at home on April 22, 1930, in Ventnor, NJ to the late Dr. Paschal Charles Martucci, Sr., and the late Angelina (Bello) Martucci. He liked to say that his first breath was the ocean and it never left him.
Charlie was raised in Atlantic City, NJ and loved his childhood and the community of Atlantic City. Charlie graduated from Atlantic City HS in 1948. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree at St. Francis College. After his Army service, he went back to school where he obtained an MSW degree from the University of Pennsylvania, equipping him with the skills to make a significant impact in the field of social work. His education laid the foundation for a life devoted to helping others.
Charlie was a proud Korean War Veteran, having served his country with honor and distinction. He held the esteemed position of Director at the Mental Health Association of Delaware for many years, where he worked tirelessly to improve mental health for countless individuals and families. His commitment to mental health advocacy also led him to serve as the Director of Training in a Philadelphia outpatient psychology clinic, where he influenced the training of many professionals in the field. Over the span of many years, Charlie and Sue fostered 10 babies and children. In 1977, Charlie relocated to South Bend, Indiana, alongside his beloved wife, Sue. There, he began a new chapter as a Professor in the social work program at St. Mary’s College.
Charlie is survived by his daughters: Victoria Foraker (Robert), Katherine Lyons (Allen), and Diane Mitchell (Willam III); grandchildren: Brittany Lyons, Benjamin Lyons, William Mitchell, IV (Courtney), and Chelsea Mitchell Whitton (Carter); and Granddaughter-in-law, Giovani Foraker; great-grandchildren: Elijah Foraker, Sade Foraker, Ave Maria Whitton, Maggie Whitton, Frankie Whitton, Louie Whitton, William Mitchell, V, and Sofia Mitchell; sister, Victoria Cusani.
In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne (Appleyard) Martucci and grandson, Eric Robert Foraker.
At the convenience of the family, services will be held privately. Charlie will be dearly missed by all who were touched by his long life.
