Norma V. “Granny” Getty, age 86, of Newark, DE passed away on February 3, 2016. She was born in Glasgow, DE on January 12, 1930.
Norma is survived by her sons, Roger Getty (Susanne), of Elkton, MD and David Getty of Delaware City, DE; daughters, Susan Getty-Evans of Elkton, MD, Sandra Ringler (Jay), of Bear, DE, and Wendy Getty of Middletown, DE; brother, John McDaniel (Shirl), of Newark, DE; and sister, Judith Hall (Robert), of Newark, DE; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, John and Josephine McDaniel; her husband, George Getty; brother, Richard McDaniel; and sister, Joan Lindell.

Dear Sandy, I was at Newark Manor on Wednesday and was very sorry to learn of your mother's passing when I returned on Friday. I know it has been a struggle for you watching your mom's health deteriorate. I enjoyed getting to know you and your sister and brother during our shared time at the nursing home (my mother is Helen Babich.) I hope the memories of all the good times you had with your mom in her healthier, happier days will bring you peace and comfort. Please extend my sympathies to the rest of your family members.

My most memorable Granny moment was when Elizabeth and I were standing in the old crib dangling a string down for the kittens (Snowball the white one and (?) the black one) that were hiding underneath the crib. All of a sudden, the crib bottom fell out. Elizabeth and I thought we smooshed the kittens. Granny came running in and yelled at us. That was the only time we were reprimanded by her!
