Noel “Jason” Powell, 51, of Elkton, passed away on July 13, 2021. Jason was a 1987 graduate of North East High School where he set numerous track and field records for the high jump, long jump and as a member of several relay teams. In addition, he attended Garrett Community College for an adventure sports degree. Professionally, he worked for many years as a master electrician in the tri-state area, eventually creating his company Elevation Electric, LLC. He also received his pilot instructor (CFII) license and worked at Raintree Airport in Cecil County, Maryland.
Jason was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandparents Virginia Allison Powell and G. Burton Powell and his maternal grandparents Fannie and Norman Bakeoven who taught him the love of family and a strong work ethic. He is survived by his sons Jadon and Cameron Powell, his ex-wife Susan Powell, his father Robert Powell, his mother Joan Ava Van Oss, and many friends who loved him.
Jason was an avid adventurer always looking to challenge the world. He loved flying planes, rock climbing, mountain biking, surfing, kite surfing, kayaking, waterskiing, and knee boarding. The creation and TV coverage of the X games was a dream come true. However, he most loved passing on his passion for skateboarding to his son, Jadon. In his final years, the times they skated together brought him the most joy. Jason passed on to Cameron his love of the ocean, boogie boarding, kayaking and cats.
Jason was a loyal friend and will be missed by many. Jason may be gone from our lives, but the memories we made together will make us laugh, cry, be embarrassed, and thankful for years to come. Continue Jason’s legacy by living life to its fullest, loving the Elk River, laughing hard, and taking care of each other.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to Susan Powell in care of Jadon and Cameron Powell for their college funds. 1825 Old Field Point Road, Elkton, MD 21921
