Roey Lee Parsons, Sr., age 82, of Conowingo, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. He was born in Tuckerdale, North Carolina, on June 30, 1943, a cherished son of the late W. Barney Parsons and Zola Edna (née Miller) Parsons.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Roey’s sense of duty and honor endured throughout his life. While stationed in Hawaii, he embraced adventure and thrill, becoming a skydiver with 20 successful jumps. He was also an avid motocross rider, competing in more than 20 Enduro events during his younger years—an adrenaline-filled passion that reflected his bold spirit and fearless determination.
Following his military service, Roey devoted over two decades to Herr’s Snack Factory as a respected sales manager before embarking on a second career as a truck driver with Advance Auto. His retirement did not mark the end of his activity—he took to the golf course with enthusiasm and, above all, found tremendous joy and fulfillment in spending time with his beloved grandchildren and family.
Roey was a long-standing and faithful member of Winkler’s Grove Baptist Church in Hickory, North Carolina. In addition to his devotion to the congregation, he could always be counted on to drive the church bus for youth outings, mission trips, and other church activities—serving his community with humility and a joyful heart. His strong faith and welcoming spirit left a lasting impact on his church family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Roey Parsons, Jr.; his grandchildren, Chance Roey Parsons and Lindsey Amber Stewart; and his sister, Lorraine Parsons.
Roey is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane (née Coomes) Parsons; his daughter, Alice Stewart (and husband Matthew); his grandchildren, Matthew Stewart, Amber Stewart, Cole Parsons, and Cody Parsons; his great-grandchildren; and his sisters: Brenda Henry, Shelby Sharp, Lois Owen, and Rhon Parsons (and wife Nancy).
A celebration of Roey’s life will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Downin Lane, Port Deposit, Maryland, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church.
Roey’s unwavering dedication—to his country, his work, his faith, and especially his family—will forever be remembered. His adventurous spirit, kind heart, and love for life will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
