Robert Paul Reeder, 88, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. Born on October 31, 1936, in Northumberland, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Paul Reeder II and Lucille (Wilson) Reeder, and the husband of Peggy (Roth) Reeder.
A graduate of Northumberland High School, Class of 1954. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy. There, he attained the rank of Aerographer’s Mate Petty Officer 1st Class and worked with the National Security Agency. He pursued higher education through the GI Bill, earning a bachelor’s degree in science from Bloomsburg State College and later a master’s degree from the University of Delaware.
Robert’s true calling was education, where he enjoyed a 38-year career. He taught Science, Biology, and Earth Science at Smyrna High School, Conrad High School, Newark Central Middle School, and Shue Middle School until he retired. Beyond the classroom, Robert coached football at Conrad High School and Newark High School.
Robert was a family man who loved watching the kids play sports and attended school events. A devoted grandfather who cherished being there for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren through all of their endeavors. Family time was his favorite time. His love for his family left a lasting legacy.
Robert is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Daniel Reeder (Cheryl), Kathy Grube (Dareld), and Kerry Laznik (Joseph); his grandchildren, Jennifer (Tyler), Jamie (David), Joseph (Savanah), Troy (Mary), Justin, Colby, and Jacob; and his six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Reeder, and his sister, Alice Riddell. Robert will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00. A private family inurnment will take place at Delaware Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
