Mary J. McIntosh, 93, a long-time resident of Newark, DE, died September 22, 2017, at Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA, where she had lived the last 10 years. Born on October 29, 1923 in Pottawattamie County, IA, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Grace F. Johnson.

Mrs. McIntosh graduated from Oakland High School and attended Iowa State University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, majoring in home economics. She married Donald H. McIntosh on September 12, 1943 in Oakland, IA. From 1943 – 1944, she worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Bank in West Allis, WI. Then, while her husband was stationed in Princeton, NJ in the Navy, she worked for the Gallup Poll and Audience Research, and was a Librarian Assistant at Princeton University.

Mrs. McIntosh was a member of PEO. Over the years, she held most of the offices in her local chapters, and was a charter member of Chapter I in Newark, DE. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Cooch’s Bridge Chapter. Mrs. McIntosh was a former member of the Delaware Genealogy Society, and spent over 20 years researching the many lines of the McIntosh and Johnson families. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newark since 1956. Mrs. McIntosh liked to travel with her husband, particularly enjoying trips to the National Parks. She was very close to her family and enjoyed reunions and family gatherings.

Mrs. McIntosh is survived by her five children: Fredric D. (Sandra) of New Bern, NC; Ann Corbett (Russell) of Dayton, MD; William H. (Lynne) of Suwanee, GA; Jill Stabley (John) of Newark, DE; and Gregory J. (Vicki) of Avondale, PA; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Donald, her husband of 71 years; by her brothers: J. Bond Johnson and H. Edwin Johnson; and by her sister, LaVerne Green.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 2 PM in the Hunsworth Room at Ware Presbyterian Village Health Center, 7 E. Locust St., Oxford, PA. Family and friends may begin visiting at 1 PM. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made payable to “First Presbyterian Church” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
