Mark E. Varites, age 77, of Newark, DE passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020. Mark was born on February 6, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Edward Varites and Catherine (Lorenc) Varites.

Mark spent the majority of his career working at the Port of Wilmington and the Port of Baltimore as a Terminal Manager in the automotive industry. He was a diehard NY Giants fan. He held Giants season tickets since 1976 and loved tailgating with his friends and family. He also enjoyed golfing. Mark loved traveling and visiting museums and enjoyed taking cruises with his family. As a U.S. Navy veteran, one of his favorite places to be was on the water. He also was an avid reader. Mark absolutely loved dogs, especially his own beloved fur babies.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lolita Varites; son, Mark Varites; daughter, Erica Varites; granddaughter, Ashley Varites; brothers: Frank, Charlie and Timmy Varites; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Varites and brother, Eddie Varites.

The family would like to thank the Heart and Vascular ICU nurses and doctors at Christiana Care for their dedication and compassion shown towards Mark and his family.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 6-8PM at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home 122 W. Main Street Newark, DE 19711. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711. Burial will be held after the service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to “Delaware Humane Society” and sent in the care of the funeral home.
