Margaret Rose ‘Peg’ McAtee, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2012 at her home in Landenberg, PA surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born October 31, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Potenburg.
Peg had many interesting jobs in her early life, including making cigars at a cigar factory when she was just 18 years old. She found a job she enjoyed and retired as a maintenance supervisor after 34 years working at the Avon-Grove School District. Her favorite pastimes included crabbing, fishing, tending to her garden and shopping, with Ollie’s Bargain World being one her favorite places. She also liked picking fresh strawberries which she was famous for making into delicious strawberry shortcakes. Next to her family, and some would contend more so, she loved her dogs and birds, and was especially attached her dog Zach. And of course being a grandmother, she cared, tended, and spoiled her grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her children, John J. McAtee of Newark, DE, Thomas J. McAtee of Landenberg, PA, Mike McAtee of New London, PA, Elizabeth McAtee of Landenberg, PA, Timothy McAtee of Landenberg, PA and Patrick McAtee and his wife Charlotte of Newark, DE; sister Mary Skalish of Prospect Park, PA; 7 grandchildren, Gregory Fulton of New London PA, Megan Fulton of Newark, DE, Ashley Rausch (Matt) of Beaufort, SC, Phillip McAtee (Loretta) of Newark, DE, Amy McAtee of Dover, DE, Nicholas Arrowood of Landenberg, PA and Hunter McAtee of Newark, DE; 3 great grandchildren, Summer, Lexi and Eli of Beaufort, SC ; numerous nieces and nephews, and dear and special friend, Mary Way of Wilmington, DE.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Thomas, and her daughter Margaret Fulton.
A viewing and visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at R.T. Foard & Jones F.H., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. A graveside service and burial will be 11AM on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Kemblesville UMC Cemetery, 1772 New London Rd., Landenberg, PA 19347. Memorial contributions can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice c/o the funeral home.
