Margaret Anna Wood

Margaret Anna Wood, age 85, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Christiana Hospital. She was born on February 1, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Charles and Margaret (Holt) Marella.

Margaret had a deep love for warm weather and all the joy it brought. A snowbird at heart, she cherished her time spent in Florida, soaking up the sun. Her son, Fran, always made sure to plan a fun night out or an early lunch outside with cocktails. Margaret loved a good lunch accompanied by a glass of Southern Comfort. When she was up North, she could often be found at her home at the shore or on the beaches of Wildwood, where family would gather on weekends to relax and spend time together. In her golden years, Margaret enjoyed spending quality time with her sister, Mary, in Rio Grande. The revolving door of family visiting that home brought endless conversation, laughter, and love.

A proud Philadelphia native, she especially enjoyed the tradition and excitement of watching the Mummers Day Parade each year, a celebration that perfectly matched her love for her city and its traditions.

In addition to lunches with her son and family, Margaret enjoyed meals out with her girlfriends, catching up and reminiscing. She had a core group of friends for many years whom she truly cherished. Margaret loved cooking Italian food as much as dining out on Italian cuisine, most notably the famous “brick” from Dufinettis or a dish from Ralph’s in Philadelphia.

A devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan, Margaret would cheer—or yell—at her team every game day. She looked forward to Black Friday on 9th Street in Philadelphia each year, but her favorite holiday was Christmas, especially in her last few years when she spent it surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margaret treasured her family deeply, maintaining strong bonds not only with her immediate family but with her extended family as well.

Margaret is survived by her children, Patricia Lindstrom and Francis Wood; grandchildren, Cari Cox (Austin) and Tommy Lindstrom (Alicia); great-grandchildren, Ainsley Cox and Anthony Cox; siblings, Mike Marella (Ingrid) and Mary Ann Orcutt; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Steven Wood and Margaret Wood; her brother, Charles Marella Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Robert Orcutt.
