Mabel C. Eldreth, age 84 of Rising Sun, MD passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2025, at Christiana Hospital after suffering a severe heart attack.
Born July 19, 1941, Mabel was raised in Bay View, MD where she graduated from North East High School. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator until she married and started raising her family.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Eldreth of Elkton, and granddaughter, Brandi Eldreth.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard “Smoke” E. Eldreth and her sons, Rick and Donald Eldreth.
Mabel was a long-time member of the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene. An avid bowler for many years, Mabel bowled several times a week with family and friends at Elkton Lanes. She and Smoke were huge fans of bluegrass and old country music, attending shows at Sunset Park and other venues religiously. After Smokes’s passing, she continued her love for music, hanging with her gal pals Lucille, Dottie and others, listening and dancing to the music of local bands. Mabel enjoyed card playing; spending many Friday and Saturday nights at Grandmom Eldreth’s or at her own home where if you were invited to play, you prepared to go the distance, late into the early morning.
The family would like to thank Lucille Jadwin, Dottie Warner, Carol and Andy Jugler for their companionship and dedication to Mabel’s care over the last few years.
A celebration of Mabel’s life will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene, 2626 Jacob Tome Memorial Hwy, Colora, MD, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM.
