Lewis F. “Jake” Maclary, age 87, of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 11, 1929 in Newark, DE to the late C. Lewis Maclary and Helen (Frazer) Willis.

He entered the Navy at age 17 and served as a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he worked for Chrysler’s Mopar Plant in the facilities and maintenance department, where he retired after 45 years of service. Always one to keep busy, he then went to work for Kirk’s Flowers, a job he enjoyed for 10 years. He enjoyed wood working, was well known for his finish carpentry skills, and was a known master craftsman. If there was something to be fixed, his family and friends could count on him to do it. He also loved boating, fishing, clamming and crabbing.

He is survived by his wife, JoEllen Maclary; his 3 children, LuAnn Bellman and her husband, Mike of Newark, DE, Rex Maclary and his wife, Dale of Bear, DE, and Tod Paxton and his wife, Melissa of Colora, MD; 6 grandchildren, Justin Bellman and his wife, Casey, Lindsay Gregor and her husband, Fran, Ryan Maclary and his wife, Lauren, John T. Paxton, Jr., Lukus L. Paxton, and Brandon M. Paxton; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Lois Webster and her husband, Allen, of Newark, DE and brother, Howard Maclary of Smyrna, DE, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ann McCommons Maclary, and his step father, Rex Willis.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and all his personal caregivers for their kindness and support of their father and the family during Jake’s illness.

A Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11AM at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Head of Christiana Cemetery.
