Layton Burke Thorpe, age 90 passed away on May 2, 2020. He was born on June 25, 1929 in Christiana, DE to the late Lewis I. Thorpe and Elsie Mae (David) Thorpe.
Although Layton was a rather quiet man, he was known for his great sense of humor. He cherished his time spent with his family and looked forward to family picnics. Layton was passionate about raising pigeons and would race them against his friend’s pigeons-sometimes for money, but mostly just for fun. He also enjoyed the tranquility of nature and fishing.
Layton is survived by his three sons and their spouses; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean Elizabeth Thorpe.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Center for Dementia Research” and send in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
