Joyce Marie Sheldon, age 88, of Finksburg, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She was born in Havre de Grace, MD on November 18, 1936, to the late Austin Heverin Jones and the late Virginia Pauline (Wardell) Jones.
In her early years, before embracing the joy of parenthood, Joyce worked as a Secretary for Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) and later for the University of Delaware (UD), a role that she took great pride in. However, after having children Joyce found her true calling, as a loving homemaker, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her family and creating a nurturing environment filled with love.
Throughout her life, Joyce was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she found joy and purpose in being part of a close-knit community. Her caring nature was reflected in every interaction, and her thoughtful gestures left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
A lover of arts and crafts, Joyce expressed her creativity through various hobbies. She delighted in working with ceramics, needlepoint, and cross-stitching. Joyce was a collector of unique treasures, a passion for collecting spoons, Cat’s Meow figurines, Maud Humphrey Bogart figurines, and Wade of England figurines, each item telling a story and reflecting her love for artistry.
In addition to her crafts, Joyce enjoyed engaging in stimulating activities, such as word searches and Sudoku. She enjoyed watching game shows, often found immersed in episodes of “Wheel of Fortune” and “The Price is Right,” where she shared laughter and moments of excitement with her family.
Known for her private yet caring demeanor, Joyce held her loved ones close. Her gentle spirit and thoughtful actions will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, and friends.
Joyce is survived by her children: Jeff Sheldon, and Randy Sheldon (his wife, Christa); grandchildren: Matthew Sheldon, and Mark Sheldon; and sister, Beverly Lennox. In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sheldon; sisters: Marie MacDougal, and Sis Hendrick; brothers: Francis Jones and William Wharton; aunt, Bessie Wharton; and uncle, Dolph Wharton.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 450 3rd Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915, where family and friends may begin visiting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to “Trinity UMC”, sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
