James Joseph Riley, “Jim” of Newark, DE, age 73, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021. He was born on February 1, 1948 in Camden, NJ to the late James Joseph Riley and Veronica Jane (Borzner) Riley.
Jim was a 1970 St. Joseph’s College graduate. He was a huge sports fanatic and always cheered on his beloved St. Joe’s basketball team and the Philadelphia Flyers. Jim loved to travel everywhere inside and outside of the country and has taken many cruises. He was very involved with the community and was on the Board of Directors at the YMCA where he helped establish their soccer fields. He was also a member of the Wilmington Rotary for many years. Jim was a devoted Catholic and member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church since 1979.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Regina “Jeanie” Riley; children: James Riley and his wife, Julie, Robert Riley and his wife, Kristine, Sean Riley and his fiancé, Erin Teaters, and Joseph Riley; grandchildren: Amanda, Samantha, Alexis, Michael, Shane, Mackenzie, Emma, and Teagan; great grandchildren: Nicholas and Alexander; brothers: Joseph Riley and his wife, Charlene, Robert Riley and his wife, Donna, and Michael Riley and his wife, Lynn; sister, Patricia Underwood and her husband, Thomas; and brother-in-law, Ed Livingston and his wife, Helen. In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Emma Livingston and father-in-law, Robert Livingston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713 where family and friends may start visiting at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Holy Family Roman Catholic Church” and sent to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
