James Cecil Lucas, age 63, of Newark, DE was born on June 22, 1961, in Hinton, WV. He passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025. Jim was the son of Alfred Hermon and Lena May Depriest Lucas.
Jim was a man whose life was a testament to hard work, and family. A loving wonderful husband, good father, and a great grandfather, dedicating himself to family, hard work, laughter, and love. Jim worked tirelessly selling firewood in the winter and concrete work during the summer. He had a spirit that brought joy to family gatherings, where he could often be found playing football with the children, sharing in laughter, and creating cherished memories. His love for his family was clear in every moment spent together, especially during camping trips where they enjoyed bonfires under the stars, dancing, and making s’mores.
Jim was also an avid 49ers fan, he could always be found cheering on his team with enthusiasm. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy, having a knack for trivia, and impressing everyone with his responses to every question. Jim was known for his number wit, being very good with math and always ready to lend a helping hand. His family-oriented nature made him a pillar of strength within his family. Jim will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all that knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda Lucas; son, Richard Parker (wife, Emmyliz); daughter, Mindy Gill; grandchildren: Richard, Myah, Edward, Lauren, and Hunter; great-granddaughter, Barbie.
Jim is preceded in death by thirteen brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim’s honor to the “National Kidney Foundation” send in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
