Henry James Norton, age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Heartland Hospice in Wilmington, DE from congestive heart failure. He was born July 8, 1930, in London, England to the late Edward and Gladys Norton.
Henry attended a technical trade school where he trained as a mechanical engineer in London. Henry and his family emigrated from the UK in 1967. He first worked for General Electric in the Aerospace Division. Later, he joined Scott Paper Company, where he remained until his retirement in 1986. During his years at Scott, Henry received many awards and patents for his design work. Always active, he enjoyed playing golf, running, and cycling. Henry enjoyed science fiction novels, and kept his mind sharp by playing chess. He was also an accomplished bridge player.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ivy; his daughter, Susan Norton, of Wilmington, DE: his son, Paul Norton, and wife, Audrey, of Puerto Rico; a granddaughter, Wendi Frye, and husband, Sean, of Laurel, MD; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Samantha; and a brother, Edward Norton, of Bath, England.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, James E. Norton, daughter, Jean L. Norton, and brother, Sydney and sister, Joan.
Committal Services will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Bethel Cemetery, 312 Bethel Cemetery Road, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
