Henry Ford, aged 85, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of North East, MD, preceded to heaven by his parents, Alvin Alfred Ford and Anna Mae (Creswell) Ford, and 11 siblings.
Henry grew up as a waterman in North East, MD, boating and fishing. As a young man, he worked at Boyd’s Market, Carlson Garage, and the sawmill in North East, and has shared fond memories from this time of his life with his family. From 1962-1964, Henry proudly served in the U.S. Army completing his basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC. He was stationed in Korea and traveled on the USNS General Daniel L. Sultan to reach his destination. He proudly shared stories of his voyage, the ports he visited, and his time in the military. Henry worked for Ford Concrete Company as a foreman/concrete finisher and was valued for his expertise and strong work ethic. During his lifelong career in the commercial industry, Henry managed jobs at the U.S. Pentagon following the attack on 9/11 and poured M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens. Henry was well-respected in the field and known by many for his toughness and unusual physical strength, earning him the nickname, “The Bear.” He retired in 2007.
Henry was kindhearted with a witty sense of humor and calm temperament, forever reminding us to “keep a cool head.” His hobbies included boating, fishing, and crabbing. He enjoyed country music, playing pool and cards, gambling at the casino and playing the lottery, horse racing, and watching professional golf and westerns on TV. He also enjoyed watching YouTube videos featuring heavy equipment and casino slots and was a fan of the Baltimore Ravens. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved being their Pop-Pop and Grandpa. He took pride in their accomplishments and talents, attending sporting events, watching plays, music and dance recitals, and enjoying their artwork. His legacy will carry on through the valuable life lessons he taught them.
In recent years he found comfort at home with his adored wife, Bonnie, and devoted son and best friend, Phil. His passing has left a void in many hearts. While our hearts mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. He will be missed and remembered for the joy he brought to all who knew him and his unwavering love for his family and friends.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bonnie Jean Ford, and three children, Bonnie Mae Arnold (Mickey), Theresa Lynn Amend (Steven), and Philip Henry Ford Sr.; 10 grandchildren, Jaymie Sanders (Brian), Dr. Miranda Arnold, Nathanial Arnold (Kelsey), Zachary Arnold (Monica), Mariah Rodriguez (Daniel), Seth Arnold (Tory), Jacqueline Amend, Megan Vannoy (Lane), Philip Ford II (Danielle), Samantha Ford; 10 great-grandchildren, Devyn, Skylar, Daniellah, Gabriel, Easton, Cooper, Savanna, Philip III, and twins Axel and Rhett.
At Henry’s request, there will be no funeral services. The family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date. We invite you to please privately celebrate his memory in your own way. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time and respecting his wishes.
