Helga Johanna Magdalena Rogal was born on December 20, 1934, in Tübingen, Germany, to Erna Magdalena Hildegard Müller and Otto Ernst Rogal. She passed away at the age of 91 on Monday, December 22, 2025.
She grew up in Germany with her siblings, Uwe Rogal, Ulrich Rogal, and Heide Meyer-Veden, her early life shaped by the privations and moral pressures of wartime Germany. She was preceded in death by her brother Ulrich.
Helga was also preceded in death by her husband, Burton Merrick Brackett (January 3, 1935 – April 21, 2007). They shared a long marriage and a deep bond.
Though her life included profound suffering, Helga maintained a strong commitment to her faith and a steadfast love for God. Her longing for harmony was shaped by her hope for goodness and her wish to turn away from what caused pain. Under all circumstances, she expressed gratitude and sought to see what was good in each situation.
Helga was the mother of six children: Thomas Brackett, Heide Braley, Martin Brackett, Rebecca Tavangar, Kenneth Brackett, and Phillip Brackett. Through them, she became the grandmother of eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She remained faithful to the life she believed in.
For those who wish to attend, a celebration of life for our mother will be held on January 31 at 11:00 AM at North East United Methodist Church, 101 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
