Harry Edward Patchell, age 78, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026. Born on September 23, 1947, in Havre De Grace, MD, Harry was the loving son of the late James Ross Patchell, and the late Genevieve Pauline (Purner) Patchell.
Harry attended Tome School, where his early education laid the foundation for high school years. He proudly graduated from North East High School, carrying with him a spirit of adventure. Harry proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, he served aboard the USS Yellowstone as an Optical Man, earning the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. His dedication and exemplary service were recognized with the National Defense Service Medal. In 1974, Harry was honorably discharged, having fulfilled his duties with integrity and valor.
After his time in the Navy, Harry returned to his community, where he worked as a mason, contributing to the neighborhoods he loved. Later, Harry embarked on a new journey as a truck driver, traveling coast to coast, hauling loads and making memories along the way.
Harry shared his mother’s home until her passing. Later he met Geneva Cecil, his cherished girlfriend. Harry had a fondness for horses, spending countless days at Harrington Raceway, watching the horses race. Geneva, a poker enthusiast, complemented his interests, and together they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Harry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all that knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Harry is preceded in death by his brother, James Patchell, Jr.; and girlfriend, Geneva Cecil.
Harry is survived by his brothers: Marshall Patchell, Charles Patchell, Richard Patchell, and John R. Patchell (wife, Patty); and sister, Susie Dean (husband, Mark).
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on March 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where family and friends may begin visiting at 1:00 PM. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the “VFW Post 6027” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
