Frederick LeRoy Boddy, age 97, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born in Colora, MD, on January 17, 1918, to the late Levi and Myrtle Smith Boddy.
He attended Rolandville Public School, the Conowingo School, and Carver High School. At the age of 17, he was employed at Wallacine Block in Newark making cement blocks. He also worked for the Round House Railroad in Harrisburg for 2 years, and then on August 21, 1942, he enlisted in the Army, where he served honorably for 3 years, earning the rank of Tech Corporal T-5. Since his discharge in 1946, Fred worked at various jobs throughout his life, including the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, Mendenhall’s Garage, Charlie Brown, Inc., and Immaculate Conception Church. Also in 1946, Fred married the love of his life, Creamella P. Williams, and they shared 50 wonderful years together. Fred was a lifelong member of Griffith African Union Methodist Protestant Church in Cedar Hill, MD. He was dedicated to his church, and held several positions including, Trustee, Treasurer, and Bishop Steward until he fell ill in 2004.
He is survived by his sister, Faye Preyor, of Colora, MD; brother, Paul Boddy, of Wilmington, DE; a sister-in-law, Roberta Williams, of Elkton, MD; and lots of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Creamella, he is predeceased by his sisters, Mary Boddy Presberry, and Hazel Boddy Thomas; and a brother, Homer Boddy.
Services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Pleasant Hill Worship Center, 32 Hilltop Road, Elkton, MD 21922. Family and friends may visit one hour prior, beginning at 10AM.
