Franklin Edwin Devonshire, “Frank”, age 86 of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 17, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1938 in Elkton, MD to the late Joseph Devonshire and Nora Devonshire (Nichols).
Frank proudly served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1962. During his time in the Navy, he was aboard the CV 59 USS FORRESTAL. Frank was an avid bowler at Brookside Bowling Alley for many years. He loved the game of baseball and his New York Yankees. Frank loved baseball so much, he coached kids for 40 years and the Iron Man trophy was created in his honor for being the longest baseball coach with Brookside. Throughout his life, he found peace when he fished at Beck’s Pond or any water way he could find. Frank always had a great time at Delaware Park, especially betting horses with his best friend, Millie. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to music with Patty and Frank. He would always find a way to eat ice cream, even when he wasn’t supposed to. Most importantly, Frank always spent time with his family and didn’t want to miss anything.
Frank is survived by his daughter-in-law, Patty Devonshire and her husband, Frank Devonshire; daughters: Kelly Devonshire, Evelyn Devonshire, and Jessica Matusky; grandchildren: Amy, Frank Jr. and his wife Taylor, Nick and his wife Katie, Alexis, Brandon, Kaila, Billy, Austin, Michaelena, and Savanna; great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Nate, Cameron, Hunter, Parker, Savea, Nicholas, Nolan, Colton, Elian, and one grandson due in January. In addition to his parents, Frank is proceeded in death by his wife, Dorothy Devonshire; sons, William Devonshire and Michael Devonshire; and daughter-in-law, Jenna Devonshire.
Frank’s family would like to thank Accent Care Hospice for their tremendous care and support during Frank’s time on hospice; especially Dr. Liu, Beth Cooksey, Alicia Beulah, and Courtland Buchanon.
