Deepest sympathies to the Allred family. What a gentle man, He was always gracious and kind to everyone he met. I knew Floyd all my life and never heard an angry word. Heaven is truely a better place, with Floyd in it.

I only knew Uncle Floyd breifly. My wife has know Aunt Tootie & Uncle Floyd her whole life, since Aunt Tootie was her Grandmother's sister. I was lucky enough to meet Floyd last year when we took our little girl Marley over to their house for a visit. Such a beautiful home. I can see why Floyd loved the area. There have only been a few times in my life where I have met someone & felt an instant connection. Meeting Floyd was one of these times. He was such a sweet man with a kind heart. Even though we probably had 30+ years seperating us we had an instant friendship. He decided he liked me & I decided I liked him... that doesn't happen very often in this life. He welcomed us into his home & fed us lunch... spent a few hours visiting & sharing memories of his wife, kids, grandkids & home. Treated me like I was family even though I had never met the man until a few hours earlier. Gave big heartfelt hugs when it was time for us to go. I'm glad I got to know Floyd, however brief the meeting may have been. I'll miss you, friend.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Some of my fondest memories of growing up was spending time with you, Aunt Tootie, and my grandmother (Kitty Serfinski) on your farm. Those hot summer afternoons spent by the pool, hearing the buzz of the electric lines, cows mooing in the distance, Aunt Tootie's sweet tea under the catalpa tree, Herr's pretzels & corn on the cob. Uncle Floyd would come in from the fields down the long drive way and have the farm dogs chasing his truck. It was a pleasure to spend the day with you folks the last time we came out to visit Maryland and I am happy you were able to meet my family now that I am all grown up. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers! xoxoxoxox

Betsy Taylor left a message on February 22, 2014:
I was so sorry not to be able to visit with Floyd before his passing. I last saw him at Calvert Manor Nursing Home when he was visiting Bill (Jake) Graham in June, 2013. Jake later died but Floyd was there, trying to be supportive, to connect, and to make Jake laugh. And that is who Floyd Allred was - a true giver to others. My father, Dr. Neil R. Taylor Jr., truly appreciated and enjoyed Floyd as a friend and fellow member of Jane's Methodist Church. They enjoyed talking politics, farming, and debating about the news of the day. Floyd was an extremely loyal and supportive friend to my father as he faced his own rare illness and decline in 2006 and 2007. I remember Floyd coming to our house when a visitor from the Soviet Union was coming through town in the early 1980s. This was before the fall of the Soviet Union and it was extremely rare to have someone coming who was not an official member of the Communist Party. We had a tea party and discussion with the young traveler and Floyd was fascinated. Turns out he had toured the Soviet Union as a younger man which surprised us all! Floyd was completely unique. He was conservative and progressive; a loyalist and a maverick; a man with genuine curiosity and unwavering opinions and beliefs. His commitment to no-till farming was decades ahead of his times. No till is not understood to be one of the most important things we can do to save and protect topsoil and to keep dangerous greenhouse gas emissions harbored safely underground. I will really miss Floyd. I left Rising Sun in 1972, but on all my return trips. Floyd was there, always ready with a hug, a smile, and questions about my life. He was there with encouragement and support when members of my family died too soon - my brother Neil and my mother Anne. I give thanks for a man who lived life so well. He was a light in the world and he will be sorely missed. I send my deepest sympathy to family and friends. Betsy Taylor

As a retired County Agricultural Agent/UMD of Cecil County I must admit Floyd Allred was one of my favorite farmers. He was one of the most innovative farmers of the county, region and state. Floyd was one of Maryland's agricultural pioneers in the agronomic area of no- till production. He and neighboring Conowingo farmer- Alfred Workman- were my "go to"guys for the no-till applied knowledge field. Floyd Allred will be remember by this individual as a strong leader in the support of his beloved agricultural community! Ted Haas, 1980-1995 Cecil Co. Agric. Agent/UMD
