Esther Jean Hartman, age 76, of Earleville, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family the morning of May 7, 2017. She was born in Georges Township, Pennsylvania to the late Leo Lewis and Delilah Lewis.

Esther worked for both Cecilton Elementary and Georgia Gulf as a secretary. She was also known as a seamstress by her family. However her number one job was simply being a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; a job she took very seriously. Esther was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan as well as University of Delaware football fan. She rarely missed a UD tailgate and enjoyed the company of friends and family at the games. She will be missed the most out on the Chesapeake Bay where she loved to go boating and crabbing.

Esther Jean Hartman is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, George Hartman; daughter, Brenda Dorrell (Darren) of Newark, DE; granddaughters, Emily and Abigail of Newark, DE; brother, Larry Lewis (Jan) of Smithfield, PA; brother, William Lewis of Sandusky, OH; and sister-in-law, Betty Lewis of Huron, OH. In addition to her parents, Esther is predeceased by her brother, Robert Lewis.

A celebration of Esther’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at the R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
