Ernest (Lynn) Thomas, age 83, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024 surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He was born on April 29, 1941, in Wilmington, DE, to the late John L. Thomas, Sr. and Beatrice N. (Nieweg) Thomas.
Lynn was a graduate of Rising Sun High School class of 1959 and went on to further his education at John Hopkins University, University of Delaware, and later at Weidner University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He dedicated himself to a successful career in aerospace engineering. He was employed in Elkton by Thiokol, which later became ATK, for 40 years. During his career he won several awards and commendations. After retiring from ATK, he started a Consulting Business that included several other engineering disciplines in addition to aerospace. This second career lasted 15 years. In his free time, Lynn loved researching his family genealogy, playing cards, sailing, camping, gardening, and in his earlier years he was a Boy Scout leader. Lynn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Thomas, his children: Chuck Thomas (Lona), Lisa O’Dwyer (Richard), Pam Morris (Matt), and Jennifer Thomas, his 14 grandchildren (Jessica Bolt-Patton, Caleb Kile, Chris Patton, Carrianna Jones, Amber Thomas, Mandi Stamos, Brittany O’Dwyer, Carli Kile, Carly Hilts, Paige Patton, Matthew Morris, Thomas Morris, Graci Barnes, and Jace Barnes) 15 great-grandchildren (Jayden Greulich, Amberlee Jones, Lacey Jones, Aliva Jones, Kash Dean, Noah Trent, KC Stamos, Annabelle Bolt, Braelyn Morris, Mackenzie Stamos, Harlow Hilts, Nova Diaz, Henry Hilts, Baby Boy Patton (due August 2024), Baby either Boy or Girl Thomas (due November 2024) and his sisters, Denise Rash and Susan Johnson.
In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his brother John L. Thomas Jr.
A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Janes Church on North Walnut Street in Rising Sun, MD, 21911, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM.
