

































Elizabeth S. “Betty” Barney, 97, of Elkton, MD, passed away at Genesis Healthcare, Elkton Center on January 15, 2013.
Born in Merchantville, NJ on September 1, 1915, Betty was the daughter of the late David and Mable Hartman Cozens. During World War II, she worked as a shipyard riveter and singing cocktail waitress. Her working career was primarily in food service as a waitress and later became a manager at Howard Johnson’s. She was a very active parish member in New Jersey and Florida. Betty most recently attended Immaculate Conception Church in Elkton, MD. She was devoted to her family and was especially delighted by the arrival of each new grandchild. Betty was cherished by her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherin E. Hise and her husband James of Elkton, MD with whom she lived, and Betty Jane Nicolucci and her husband Paul of Indianapolis, IN; sister-in-law, Josephine Cozens; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Cook; 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John B. Barney and her son, Thomas H. Cook.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 454 Bow St. Extension, Elkton, MD 21921 on Saturday February 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Key Largo, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Parish Outreach c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main St. Elkton, MD 21921.
