Edmundo Samson Bernardo (“Eddie”), age 73 of Newark, DE, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018.

Eddie was born on October 6, 1944 in the Philippines to the late Juan and Remedios Bernardo. Eddie will be remembered as a tender-hearted dad who loved his family. You can tell because of the numerous photos he had taken over the years of the friends and family he most cared about. An enthusiast of music, Eddie enjoyed listening to the golden oldies and was particularly fond of Elvis Presley and The Mamas & The Papas. He was passionate about playing his acoustic guitar; playing in a band as a young man as well as with the Silayan Singers. Eddie also served on the church worship team for a short time. Among his many talents, Eddie had a green thumb and was able to bring things to life or grow unusual tropical plants in the heart of winter! He also had a soft spot for animals and was an avid collector of clocks. As time goes on, we hope to remember the good memories that Eddie had left with each one of us. He had a big heart full of love and enjoyed bringing laughter to any crowd.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wilma Bernardo; four children: Geraldine Ang, Alan Bernardo, Erica Bernardo, and Nikki LaShomb; five grandchildren: Harrison, Sophia, Sadie, Adeline, and Lincoln; and his sister, Letty Bautista.

A memorial will be held in Eddie’s honor on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at The Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2274 Porter Road, Bear, DE 19701, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 10:30am, and a life celebration meal shortly after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “The Good Shepherd Baptist Church” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
