Dolores Ann Ails, 65, of Rising Sun, passed away peacefully on February 28, Born in Baltimore County on December 21, 1960, she was the cherished daughter of the late William Albert Jones, Jr. and Edna Geraldine (née McVickers) Jones, and the devoted wife of 33 years to Randall Ails.
Dolores was the proud co-owner of Rising Sun Martial Arts, which she and Randall faithfully operated together since 1994. Through their school, Dolores did far more than provide self-defense techniques—she helped shape lives. With patience, encouragement, and unwavering belief in her students, she instilled confidence, self-discipline, respect, and self-esteem in generations of young people. Her influence extended well beyond the dojo, touching countless families throughout the community. Her “Karate Family” held a special place in her heart. At home, Dolores found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader of the Bible and romance novels and loved escaping into heartfelt stories. She had a special tenderness for animals, particularly cats, and lovingly cared for many over nthe years. Her beloved “Thumper” and “BamBam” held a special place in her heart.
Above all, Dolores’ world revolved around her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her grandchildren were a constant source of pride and happiness, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Dolores was well known for her warm spirit and unforgettable hugs—embraces that brought comfort, reassurance, and love to so many. She always dressed in bright colors and was quick with kind words. Her kindness, strength, and generous heart will be remembered always.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchild, Niki Oldewurtel, and her brothers, William Jones III, Joseph Jones, and David Jones. Dolores is survived by her loving husband, Randall Ails; her children, Teresa Oldewurtel and her husband Doug, Ann Kotkas and her husband Erik, and David Oldewurtel and his wife Samantha; her cherished grandchildren, Rebecca Casey, Alexea Schriver, Bella Oldewurtel, Cooper Oldewurtel, and Evan Kotkas; her sister, Karen Duncan and her husband Charles; as well as many extended family members, dear friends, and devoted students.
A family-directed Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Rising Sun Martial Arts, 11 E. Main Street, Rising Sun, Maryland. Her legacy of strength, compassion, and love will live on in all who had the privilege to know her.
