David “Sarge” Lee Sargent, Sr., age 73, of Elkton, MD passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020. He was born on October 18, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late Shade Haggae Sargent and Bessie Sue (Bryant) Sargent.
Sarge worked as a truck driver throughout his life for various companies, as well as driving for the Department of Defense, until his retirement in 2010. During that time, he also owned a drywall business for twenty-five years, a lawnmower repair shop, in addition to other odd jobs. As an instructor, teaching many students, Sarge was a Taekwondo grandmaster and a fourth degree blackbelt in Hapkido. Sarge was a foster parent for seven and a half years, having fostered twenty-eight children during that time. His greatest joy in life was taking care of his family and spending time with them. Sarge will be remembered as “The Greatest Story Teller of All Time”, who always had a tale to tell.
Sarge is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Sargent; children: Linda, David Jr. and his wife, JoAnn, Michael and his wife, Virginia, Shelley and her husband, Clyde Kerns, Deanna and her fiancé, Rob Brown, William Sargent and Sara Crowhorn, Veronica and her husband, Jens, Taka and his wife, Tonya, Norma Avila, Kenya Beverly, Florence Crain, June Lawson and her husband, Wayne Poole, Vernon Smith, Chris Madison and his wife, Ashley, brothers Chris And Dwayne Keenan, , Jay Gatewood, Zach Nolan and many more whom he considered his own; thirty-five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Sarge was preceded in death by his siblings: Freda Lee, Frances Rushing, and Robert Sargent.
The family would like to thank all of Sarge’s caregivers for their wonderful care, especially Ashley, Amber, John, Bunny, Ryan, Gerri, Becca, and Kelly who all had a special friendship with him.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
