David Dunton, age 74 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. He was born on November 9, 1949 in Cedar City, UT to the late Harvey Ensign Dunton, and Virginia Katherine (White) Dunton.
David was blessed with a strong knowledge of grammar, an avid reader, he enjoyed reading classical books, which complemented his introverted and quiet nature. Though often reserved and not very outwardly emotional, David was funny and had a witty sense of humor. Those who knew David understood the depth of his strength and his sensitivity to sound, making him very aware of his surroundings.
David pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Acting. His time at BYU was filled with vibrant experiences; he acted in numerous plays and taught classes while working towards a master’s degree, which he, unfortunately, could not complete due to unforeseen complications. Nonetheless, his passion for theater and the arts never diminished, and he continued to nurture this love.
David’s professional career began in banking where he worked in the International Banking department at Citibank. Later, he served as an analyst for Wells Fargo, where his keen analytical skills were highly valued. Beyond his corporate roles, David had a passion for historical preservation, working and volunteering with Indexing for Genealogy Work. In his early years, David worked as a taxi driver in New York City and Provo, Utah, and even spun records as a DJ at a college radio station where he enjoyed all types of music especially, The Beatles and Beethoven. He took part in debate and public speaking, developing a good announcer voice.
David found joy in baseball, classical music, plays, British TV, cooking, camping, carpentry and building. He was a devoted fan of game shows like Jeopardy and The Price is Right. David had a passion for reading and writing. He spent years working on writing a book, which, though unpublished, was an endless pleasure and growth for David.
David was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through his role as President of the Midwood Brooklyn Church and his mission work in Brazil. His enjoyment for camping led him to volunteering as a Scout Master. David’s greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren and baby sitting them. His gentle spirit, and dedication to his family and passions will be fondly remembered.
David is survived by his daughters: Melina Rosenberg, Shura Dunton Parks, and Kay Dunton; grandchildren: Kyle Parks, Nathan Parks, and Samuel Parks, and sister, Audrey Gilger.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his wife, Filomena De Toledo Dunton, grandchildren: Eliza Snow Parks, and Joshua Ray Parks; siblings: James Harvey Dunton, Jennie Hart, Anna May Honsvick, and Joyce Boyter.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 2:00PM at Sharp’s Cemetery, 226 Lewisville Road, Elkton, MD 21921. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “International Myeloma Foundation” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
