Danny Eugene Justice, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on December 14, 2024. Born in Gilbert, West Virginia, Danny was the cherished son of the late Elmer Francis Justice and Ida Frances Justice (née Kelch).
Among Danny’s personal papers was a fortune cookie message that read, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the essence of his remarkable life. A proud veteran, Danny served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era as a photographer. His assignments took him to fascinating places and afforded him unique opportunities, including photographing President Dwight D. Eisenhower. His love for photography extended into civilian life, where he worked for the Cecil Whig newspaper.
Danny possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a tireless work ethic, having owned his own tire business and wedding photography business. He founded a successful garbage collection business, operating three trucks. He later ventured into the restaurant industry, where he owned and managed notable establishments such as the House of Seafood and The Chesapeake. In addition, he made savvy investments in real estate.
Danny lived by the motto, “Work hard, play harder.” He was always ready for an adventure. He was an accomplished skier who tackled the slopes of the Swiss Alps and an avid snowmobiler for over 30 years, particularly enjoying the rugged terrain of the Tug Hill area in upstate New York. Remarkably, he remained active in the sport until the age of 80. Danny also had a passion for hot rods and was a proud member of a local hot rod club, where he enjoyed camaraderie with friends who shared his love of cars.
Danny’s vibrant personality made him the life of every gathering. He was known for his humor, warmth, and ability to keep things light-hearted. He cherished dining out with friends and family, fostering deep and enduring relationships. For Danny, friends and family were central to his life, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Justice and Darlene Mitchem. He is survived by his children: Jeffrey Justice; Danielle Ward and her husband, Paul; and Kelley Familant and her husband, Chad. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Sophia, Zack, Alex, and Karlie; his siblings: Elmer Justice Jr. and Brenda Maccarone; as well as a large extended family and many dear friends.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cecil County Special Olympics. Contributions will be accepted at the service or may be mailed to Cecil County Special Olympics, 5 Trent Road, Elkton, MD 21921.
