Charles Paul (Chuck) Frantz, born 6/23/22 in Norristown, PA, son of Horace H. Frantz and Marian Smith Frantz.

Graduate of Norristown High School, PA; attended two years at the Conservatory of Music, Lebanon Valley College, Annville, PA; graduate of US Navy School of Music, Washington, DC; A.A. in Music, San Diego Junior College, CA; and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Kutztown State Teachers College, PA. He completed Basic, Intermediate and Fellowship training at the Boy Scouts of America Training Center, Mendham, NJ and continuing education in Personnel and Labor Relations at the University of Delaware, Newark, DE. Mr. Frantz sang and played clarinet with school organizations where he attended.

During WWII, Chuck played with US Navy Band #40 assigned to the battleship USS California (BB-44). His battle duty was as a munitions handler for 5-inch (38-cal) anti-aircraft weapons; he participated in the assaults on Saipan, Guam, Tinian, Leyte, Lingayen, and the final battle for Okinawa; he was a Kamikaze attack survivor.

Following military service, he was Director of Music, Burlington School District, WY; was employed as a District Scout Executive for 19-years in Pennsylvania, and retired after 17-years as Personnel Coordinator, Foodservice Department, at the University of Delaware, Newark, DE. Chuck was an active member of Newark United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Usher, and Worship Task Team member. He and Marge danced in the Circle-4 Square Dance Club, participated in numerous Elderhostel Travel Tours and volunteered with the Blood Bank of Delmarva. Chuck spent many days as a docent at Hagley Museum and did hours of work on their 2007 miniature display of Grand Central Station. Chuck was a member of Newark American Legion Post 10 until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Marjorie B. Frantz, Newark, DE and is survived by son Gary “Lee” Frantz (wife Donna D. Campbell), Omaha, NE; Daughter, Jean Marie (Amber) McGuire (husband John), Dalton, NH; 4-Granddaughters, 2-Grandsons, 5-Great Grandchildren, 1-Great, Great Granddaughter; and special niece Janet Tremaine (husband Ken), Milford, NJ.

A private interment will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Friday, September 22, 2017 followed by a same-day 2:00 p.m. Memorial Service at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E Main St, Newark, DE 19711. Family will greet guests at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
