Caroline Bowen

December 21, 1958 - September 23, 2012

Caroline had a passion for honoring and preserving tradition. She loved theatre and she loved the arts. She was a member and officer of The Order of St. John, a member of The National Society of Americans of Royal Descent and numerous other civic and cultural organizations.

Caroline is survived by her greatest love, Richard W. De Mott, Jr.

A funeral service was held September 29 at St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, with interment in the adjoining churchyard. Caroline was buried next to her beloved father, Laurance Bowen.

Survived by her greatest love, Richard W. DeMott Jr., and his mother Mary, whom she adored, and Richard’s five siblings who hold so many memories of happy times together.

I met Caroline "Cannie" in Lower School at Germantown Academy and always thought she had a very kind heart. I pass along my sincere condolences to her family who eternally grieve and say assuredly that the world is a lonely place without Cannie.

We would see each other briefly at the duPont family New Year's Calling event in Wilmington. She was the most beautiful woman that I ever spoke with. She would show up one year, skip the next. I always looked for her. The last time I saw her was two years ago, I think. She had a new boyfriend and it was great to see them together. I gave her a call so that we might stop by and see her and maybe take a walk. She was busy with animals, or at the vet, and couldn't talk. We never got together. I didn't realize that she lived on a road that I pass and actually will drive by tomorrow. We are sorry for her loss and for her family and loved ones, and New Year's will never be the same.
