Calvin Walker Downer, Jr., age 87 of North Port, FL, formerly of Colora, MD passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Born April 9, 1932 in Richmond, VA, Calvin was the son of the late Calvin W. Downer, Sr. and the late Gladys V. (Koontz) Downer.
Calvin served his county proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a boat patrol captain for Aberdeen Proving Ground for 30 years. A devoted husband and father, Calvin enjoyed the simple things in life such as shooting guns, fishing and crabbing. However, what he cherished most was spending time with his family and friends.
Calvin is survived by his three sons: David A. Downer, Don A. Downer and his wife, Audrey and Dan A. Downer and his wife, Michele; five grandchildren: Dan Jr., Dawn, Cody, Chad and Kyle; four great grandchildren and his sister, Betty Walter. Including his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy Mae Downer.
A service will be held in Calvin’s honor at 11am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, 475 Connelly Rd, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10am. Burial will follow in Bel Air Memorial Gardens where military honors will be observed.
