Austin R. “Bud” Hurley, age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 31, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Jeanette (Nieb) and Richard Hurley.

Bud worked as a welder at the Chrysler Automotive plant in Newark from which he retired after 27 years of service. Through his life, he enjoyed bowling, archery, fishing and crabbing. He was especially proud of his twenty-two years of service as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, for which he earned the Jefferson Award. His greatest joy however was his family. He was known as a compassionate, loving family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn (nee Kocher); daughters, Elizabeth Hurley and Kathleen Teter (Dale); eight grandchildren, Robert (Cassy), Laura, Abigail (David), Alex ( Kylee), Allison, Emily, and twins Danielle and Donovan; great grandchildren, Sophia and Savannah Temme, and Trevor Carl Teter; sisters, Jeannine Laietta and Pat Bonocorso; several nieces and nephews; and many, many special friends.

Austin was preceded by his mother, father, and brother, Richard Hurley.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 6-8PM at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 4PM at the funeral home where family and friends may visit beginning at 3PM. In honor of Bud’s love for his country, please feel free to wear red, white or blue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Delaware Hospice” or “Meals on Wheels” and sent c/o the funeral home.
