Anne Marie Oliver, age 90, of Elkton, MD passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2018. She was born in Barnsboro, PA on January 13, 1928 to the late Santo Bongiovanni and Nancy (Mancuso) Bongiovanni. The family then relocated to New Brunswick, NJ where she spent her formative years.
Anne graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1946. She graduated with a Diploma plus Certificate in Bookkeeping. While still in high school, Anne had the opportunity to work at Peoples National Bank of New Brunswick, NJ where she honed her bookkeeping skills. In high school she enjoyed being on the Social Committee and practiced photography with her father, Santo.
After the war, Anne worked at Rutgers University helping returning WWII Veterans enroll through the GI Bill. While working at Rutgers University, she completed an Accounting Course. During this time, she met and married Robert Vanzile Oliver.
For over fifty-one years they lived their love story. Living first in New Jersey, where they raised their two children; Robert (b. 1950) and Anne Marie (b. 1960). As she raised her children, Anne continued to be a working woman; taking pride in jobs at St. Peter’s Hospital, Berman Company, the YWCA, and Planned Parenthood as an accountant. During this time, she continued her education through Rutgers University, completing a Business Management course, furthering her career in Accounting. Anne and Robert eventually retired to Maryland to be close to their children and their families. She never slowed down in retirement. Anne took a part-time job, that led to her being the Comptroller for Fluron.
Anne was a member of the Elkton Senior Center and St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church’s Senior Citizens Club. Anne attended Immaculate Conception Church for almost thirty years where she served in the Ministry for Outreach and was a member of the Leisure Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, music, roses and playing Pinochle.
Anne is survived by her children: Robert S. Oliver and his wife, Jean, Anne Marie Grimmer and her husband, Charles; five grandchildren: Linda
Marie Grimmer, Susanne Grimmer, Alexandrea Oliver, Christine Oliver, and Charles Robert Grimmer; two great-grandchildren: Harper Couch and Violet Cooke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her sisters: Nancy Aleksanis and Katherine Sorbino; and beloved husband of fifty-one years, Robert V. Oliver.
Anne was a one of a kind and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service for Anne will be held at 11am on Friday, July 6, 2018 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10am. Burial will follow at Elkton Cemetery.
