William Quigley, age 92, died peacefully on November 8, 2021, surrounded by the love of family, including his wife of 67 years. Born to Joseph and Marie Quigley, “Bill” was the ninth of 10 children. He grew up on his grandfather’s farm, now “Quigley Blvd”, and the Historic Penn Farm in New Castle, DE. After high school, Bill went on to graduate with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering.
Bill enjoyed working for the same company for 42 years, starting as an engineer and progressing to management. One project he particularly enjoyed was the Gemini rendezvous radar program (part of the Gemini human spaceflight program) that demonstrated for the first time in history, using radar technology, that two vehicles in space could locate each other, latch up without colliding, and be controlled as one. This paved the way for the Apollo program.
Outside of work, Bill loved working in the yard, could fix anything around the house, loved to cook and make scrapple, enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling with his wife, and enjoyed time and vacations with family. His generous heart was always eager to help family or share plants from the garden with friends. With no formal training, Bill also had a beautiful tenor voice.
Bill was a member of Catonsville Presbyterian church, along with his wife, for almost 65 years and served as a Deacon, Elder, Trustee, and committee chair on a number of committees.
Bill is survived by his wife, three daughters, son-in-law, and three grandchildren.
