Walter Funk, age 75, of Rising Sun, MD passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018. Born in Bainbridge, MD on June 5, 1942, he was the son of the late William Glenn and Stella Edith (Anderson) Funk.
Walt was a lifetime member of the Rising Sun Fire Company, where he was past President and was active in supporting the Ladies Auxiliary. He served on both the Harford and Cecil County Volunteer Firemen Associations and held the title of Vice President in the Cecil County Association for many years. Walt served as the Delegate of the Ocean City Firemen’s Convention for many years as well and always loved attending the event each year. His favorite time was spent in Tennessee and tinkering with his car, a 1929 Ford Model A. Walt’s most cherished time was spent with his family, especially with his granddaughter, Stella, whom he was very proud of.
Walt is survived by his two children: Brian Funk (Renee) of Elkton, MD and Rebecca Jordan (Alan) of Rising Sun, MD; and three grandchildren: Katherine Elisabeth Funk, Stella Grace Rudd, and Eric Austin Jordan. In addition to his parents, Walt is preceded in death by his son, Richard Lee Funk; grandson, Tyler Lee Jordan; sister, Rachel Simcox; and two brothers: William Rex Funk and Andrew Lewis Funk.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. A celebration of Walt’s life will be held at 12pm on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Conowingo Baptist Church, 151 Rock Springs Road, Conowingo, MD 21918, where friends and family may visit beginning at 11am. Burial will follow at Conowingo Baptist Cemetery.
