Wallace (Wally) H. Hansen age, 86 of Newark, DE passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. Born on October 15, 1930 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Jessie M. (Vargo) Hansen.
Mr. Hansen was a retired Industrial Engineer. He earned his engineering degree from Lawrence Tech University in MI in 1953. Upon graduation he spent time overseas in Europe as a statistician with the U.S. Army. His many industrial engineering affiliations were Packard Motor- Ford Motor and Chrysler Motor Corporations. He retired in 1987 from the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware as manager of industrial engineering.
Other organizations and memberships included St. Johns- Holy Angels Catholic Church, the St. Thomas More Oratory, past officer and board member of Delaware Saengerbund, past officer Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degrees, St. Michael’s Lodge #4548, Moose Lodge Member #1578 and Legion member #186, member of American Legion 0015 and Veterans Foreign Wars 14000. Mr. Hansen enjoyed travelling with his wife “Prudie” using their time shares to many places.
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Providenza (Prudie) M. Hansen; two sons, Christopher “Chris” Hansen and wife, Chong, of Laurel, MD, and Gregory “Greg” Hansen of Newark, DE; three daughters, Karen Schiller, and husband, Victor, of Bluffton, SC, Arlene Seppanen, of Wilmington, DE, and Sue Wilcox and husband, Gary, of Wilmington, DE; three granddaughters, Kristen Schiller, and fiancé, Michael McMullen, of Charleston, SC, Jessica Seppanen, of Wilmington, DE, and Jennifer Seppanen, and her boyfriend, Adam Meadows, of Wilmington, DE; and brother, Henry C. Hansen of Dearborn, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may visit one hour prior beginning at 10AM. Interment to be held at 10AM on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. Memorial contributions may be made payable to “Little Sisters of the Poor” 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, Delaware 19713.

To my Aunt Prudie and family , Uncle Wally was a great person who I will always remember. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. He was so full of life and always laughing, he made my time there enjoyable while I was stationed in Norfolk back in the seventies. He made me feel so at home and comfortable I felt I was apart of the family. I still remember him telling me while eating supper to have more bread , at the time I was too young or naive to understand. As I grew older I saw what a responsibility it was to raise a family and how he took care of his family. He raised his children the right way and made sure they all had access to college . That was one of the greatest things he did, which will live on past his time with his children and grandchildren.

I saw this obit by accident today looking for someone else's. Wally was a friend of my parents, John and Marie Henry. He offered our family a lot of support when my father was ill in 2004 and has stayed in contact with my mother after my dad's passing. Wally and Dad both worked at Chrysler.
