Vernon “Buss” Denver Keys of Conowingo, MD, age 88, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019. He was born in Quarryville, PA on March 26, 1931 to the late William Keys and Lona Margaret (Miller) Keys.
Buss was a truck driver his entire life, having hauled manure to mushroom plants in Maryland and Pennsylvania as well as hauling steel on long distance runs. He loved animals, especially dogs, and listening to classic country music, as well as singing and playing country music on his guitar. During his lifetime, Buss had several of his own bands and played at area VFWs, American Legions and other entertainment venues.
Buss was always looking for good deals on vehicles which he would then resell, Toyotas were his favorite and first choice. Having a love for motorcycles from an early age, Buss purchased several Harley Davidson motorcycles and relished the opportunity to take them out for rides with his friends. His most treasured time was spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Buss is survived by his two sons: Rickey Keys and Terry Keys; two daughters: Donna Witkowski and Shaunna Brooks; nine grandchildren: Tara Keys, Daniel Witkowski, Tyler Witkowski, Steven Brooks, Shaun Dotson, Alyssa Johnson, T.J. Keys and Kayla Keys; three great-grandchildren: Jaxon Johnson, Azlynn Johnson and Robby Yingling; sister, Patricia Ann Temple; and two brothers: James Earl Keys and Charles “Bill” Robert Keys.
In addition to his parents, Buss was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (McCaslin) Keys; son, Marty Austin Keys; seven sisters: Villa Hess McCardle, Ruth Fogleman, Zola Margaret Tharp, Doris Belle VanDyke, Tressie May Wilson, Helen “Pinky” Louise Vaughn and Opal Grace Goad; and brother Joseph David Keys.
A celebration of Buss’ life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10am. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
