Treva Lou Hewlett, age 83 of Newark, DE passed away on December 31, 2016. She was born on November 11, 1933 in Miami, FL to the late, Edgar C. Hall and Treva Lou (Blanton) Hall.

Treva attended Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL. She then attended Jacksonville Junior College for an Associates’ Degree, during her enrollment there she was crowned Miss Jacksonville Jr. College Queen. Continuing her education she graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC with a degree in psychology.

Her love of God led her to become a long time member of the Newark Wesleyan Church. She helped build the new Wesleyan Church on Church Road when they moved to West Newark. When she lived in Virginia Beach she was an active member of the Bayside Presbyterian Church. Treva more recently was a member of Elkton Presbyterian Church and was very involved with their food pantry and The Community Kitchen.

Her true love of Country and the American Flag was evident in all she did. She loved our veterans and their sacrifice for our country. She was PROUD of our flag and would fly it when and wherever she could. On Veterans Day, she would drive around and hand out small flags to anyone that would take one. She helped organize a Veterans Day Memorial Celebration at Elkton Presbyterian Church. For those who attended, it was an event they will never forget. It was a wonderful tribute to all active and retired military personnel. “God Bless America” was her favorite patriotic song, in fact, she thought it should be our National Anthem.

Treva was one of the founders and President of Delaware Drug Defense in Newark, a group that spread awareness about the dangers of illegal drug use. She also knew most of the Newark Police Department by their individual names. She was passionate about helping kids and young adults confronting challenges in their lives. At one time Treva and her husband took in several children from Our Lady of Grace Home.

She was a talented coach and mentor. She was the den leader of her two son’s Cub Scout Packs. Treva was the cheerleading coach for the VFW football team. She was a loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt, mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved being with her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren. She enjoyed being the biggest fan for her grandchildren’s sporting events….baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, equestrian, field hockey, dance, karate, body building, and of course cheerleading. Not many people know that Treva was the Hopscotch Champion of the district in which she lived as a youngster. She also took up line dancing in her later years along with her daughter and would dance until the wee hours of the night. She enjoyed dining at local Newark restaurants with family and friends. Oh, and for those who really knew her…. she LOVED her ICE CREAM!

Treva is survived by her children: Gary Dale Hewlett and his wife, JoAnne of Newark, DE and; Terry Lynn Leuci of Newark, DE and; Jerome Scott Hewlett and his wife, Cheryl of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Kermith Clayton Hall and his wife, Dorinda of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, George Thomas Kincaid and his wife, Beverly of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren: Jasalyn Renae Alexander and her husband, Marcus; Markie Marie Mitchell and her husband Paul; Zachary Richard Leuci; Michael Scott Hewlett; Hailey Lynn Blankenhorn; Grace Lorraine Hewlett; and three great-grandchildren: Cayden Marcus Alexander, Maddex Brayson Alexander, and Hayden Elizabeth Giles.

She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Dr. Elmer Chester Hewlett III.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals that cared for her, both in, and out of the hospital.

A life celebration for Treva will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00am at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main St, Elkton, MD 21921 where family and friends may attend the visitation beginning at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to, “Elkton Presbyterian Church, for Food Pantry” and sent in care of R.T. Foard and Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
