Tracey Benjamin Serpi, PhD of Churchville, MD, age 43, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 13, 1973 in Elkton, MD to Henry Wayne Benjamin and Norma Combs Benjamin.
Tracey graduated as valedictorian from the Rising Sun High School Class of ’91, and continued her education at University of Maryland Baltimore County and University of Maryland at Baltimore, ultimately earning a PhD in epidemiology. She worked as a Biostatistician at Perry Point Veteran’s Hospital. For approximately 20 years, Tracey was a member of Maryland Transplant Team and participated in the Transplant Olympics. She taught dog obedience training at Four Paws where she was able to enjoy her passion of training dogs. Tracey always put on her best, even when she was not feeling well. She was an inspiration to her nieces and nephews and loved by all that met her.
Tracey is survived by her loving husband of twenty one years, Bill Serpi of Churchville, MD, her four children/dogs; Buddy, B.B., Kiss, and Holly; her parents, Henry Wayne Benjamin and Norma Combs Benjamin, of Rising Sun, MD; her in-laws, Alex and Rose Serpi Sr., of Hagerstown, MD, and her maternal grandmother, Kathern Combs of Elkton, MD; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 between 6PM and 8PM at the R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. A memorial service will be held for Tracey on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11AM. Family and friends may begin visiting at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tracey’s honor can be made payable to “Living Legacy Foundation” or “House of Hope” and sent in care of the funeral home to P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
