Stephen N. Toms, 87, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away peacefully at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center on August 4, 2012.
Born in Smithsburg, MD on February 15, 1925, Stephen was the son of the late Albertus and Sadie Pearl Hewitt Toms. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground, working in the Ballistics Research Division. He enjoyed music and in his younger years, entertained the residents at Calvert Manor. His two greatest passions were science and nature.
He is survived by his three daughters Elaine R. Richardson of Rising Sun, MD; Jean Weston of Faifax, VA, and Edith Lynn Toms of Bethesda, MD and a son, H. Keith Toms of Reedley, CA; and a brother, Robert Toms of Elkins, WV; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Ruth Fink Toms as well as his sister Ruth and his brother Harold.
A service honoring his life will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Friday August 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00. Burial will be private.
