Stephen Daniel Cherry, 76, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on May 7, 1948, in Chestertown, Maryland, to the late Joseph Cherry and Dorothy (née Stephens) Cherry. Stephen was the devoted husband of Bonita (née Lee) Cherry, with whom he shared many years of love and partnership.
Stephen earned an Associate’s Degree from the University of Delaware and worked in a variety of roles before working at the Avon Plant in Newark, Delaware, a position he held for 30 years. In the years that followed, Stephen and his wife Bonita embarked on a successful business venture together, creating and selling crafts for 14 years. Bonita supplied the crafts, while Stephen took charge of the business side. Their work allowed them to travel extensively, attending craft shows across the United States. They also enjoyed exploring destinations around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, England, and Scotland, to name a few.
A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stephen was also deeply involved in the DelMarVa Council of Boy Scouts of America, where he contributed his time and energy to the community. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kindness, his unwavering faith, and his commitment to his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Cherry and Alvin Cherry.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Bonita Lee Cherry; his daughter, Shiloh Travis; his son, Joshua Cherry; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 21 Foster Lane, North East, Maryland. The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
