Shinjiro Anselm Kimura, 89, of Hockessin, DE passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 after a short illness.
Born April 11, 1927, Shinjiro was raised in Kyoto, Japan and received his medical degree from Kyoto University. In 1952 he immigrated to the United States to complete his training in anesthesiology. In Cleveland, OH, he met Margaret Higgins, who became his wife of 52 years, and with whom he had and raised eleven children. In 1977 he accepted the position as Chief of Anesthesiology at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. He practiced at Union until his retirement. After his retirement, he continued to serve by filling in at various hospitals throughout Maryland when an anesthesiologist was needed. When he finally stepped away from medicine he moved to Syosset, NY to be closer to two of his young grandchildren. More recently, he relocated back to the area and spent his final days at Brookdale Assisted Living Community.
Dr. Kimura is survived by his daughters: Rosemary, Sr. Joseph Margaret, Agnes, Martha and Maggie; his sons: Joseph, Peter and Philip, and finally his grandchildren: Catherine, Jonathan, Michael, Matthew and David. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret and three children: Therese, Matthew and Paul.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Oblate Father’s Chapel, 1120 Blue Ball Road, Elkton, MD 21921, with a visitation beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will follow the service at Mount Aviat Academy, 399 Childs Rd, Childs, MD 21916 with a reception following the burial. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made payable to the “Oblate Sisters of St. Francis DeSales” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.
