Sandra L. (Cooke) Bloom of Newark, DE, age 86, died peacefully Friday, January 22, 2021. Sandra was born on November 6, 1934 in New Orleans, LA to the late Austin Cooke and Lucile A. (Worsham) Cooke.
As a native of New Orleans, Sandra was very proud of her Louisiana heritage. She hosted many Mardi Gras parties, and brought some of her hometown to her northern friends. She graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in New Orleans. She then attended H. Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University, where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She was a pre-school teacher in New Orleans and in Newark. Sandra was an amazing homemaker, who enjoyed baking and gardening. She was also an incredible seamstress, especially making children’s clothing. She was very active at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was a member for almost 50 years. She doted constantly on her grandchildren.
Sandra is survived by her children, Lisa, Scott (Larry), Brent, and Tori (Mike); her grandchildren Brittanie, Meghan, Lindsay, Chelsea, Rebecca and Ryan; nine great grandchildren; her sister Gayle; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Heather; sister, Cynthia; and brother, Austin II.
The family would like to thank offices of Dr. Glassner, Dr. Lenhard, and Dr. Ko. Special thanks to Susan, Carl and Elaine at Regency Square apartments. Ashley and her family at Nick and Joe’s. Her personal Uber driver Brad. Her surrogate family of Eka, Ilias and Natalie. Sally who kept Mom loaded with groceries and laughs. Maria who kept her connected spiritually when she could no longer attend church in person. Thank you all for playing an important part in her life and all you did for her.
A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 276 South College Avenue, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may attend the visitation beginning at 9:30AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “American Diabetes Association” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
